ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN ARAB MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY HISTORY ( BRANCHES )

JOB PURPOSE
​

The appointee should be able to support the Department of History and Islamic Civilization to capitalise on the significant progress it has made so far and contribute to the academic life of the University of Sharjah, nationally and internationally. The appointee(s) should be able to enrich the Department's research agenda, expand its teaching programs, and undertake graduate supervision.
Applications are sought from eminent candidates who can enhance the Department's research, education, and societal impact within the field of Arab modern and Contemporary History.

Research and teaching in the Department are methodologically and theoretically diverse, and we expect candidates to be able and willing to engage in intellectual exchanges across a range of Arab history topics within the discipline.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students the applicant's field of specialization
Providing academic advising for students.
Conducting scientific research in the field of specialization.
Contributing to the activities and committees of the department.
Supporting the activities that serve the university and the community.
Contributing to the efforts of academic accreditation and quality assurance.

JOB SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
In addition to the above-required qualifications, selection criteria include the general duties attached to the position:
Providing an ongoing high level of personal commitment to, and achievement in, a particular scholarly area.
Conducting research and assisting with the development of research policy in the department.
Fostering the research groups and individuals within the Department, and the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
Contributing to teaching, including developing courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and the delivery of lectures.
Acting as Advisor to students in the undergraduate programs, and research students.
Supervising research students (i.e., Master's Degree and PhD)
Other duties as required, consistent with the classification for this position.
REQUIRED SKILLS
We seek candidates who have:

o the ability to develop and lead high-quality
research
o good skills in using computers.
o fluency in Arabic and English (speaking and writing).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
​A PhD in Arab Modern & Contemporary History.

obtained a doctorate in Arab Modern & Contemporary History from one of the recognized universities in the field of specialization.

experience in university teaching in the field of specialization (8 years at least).

published in high quality refereed journals in the specialty.

good knowledge of academic accreditation requirements and procedures.

وكان وزير التربية والتعليم، الدكتور طارق شوقي، قد أوضح أن جلسة استجوابه اليوم مع نواب البرلمان كانت صحية للغاية واستمرت 4 ساعات وتتخلص في 3 محاور وهي "كثافات الفصول، وعجز المعلمين، و مناهج رابعة ابتدائي"، قائلا: "نفكر بعض بحجم التركة وصعوبة هذه المهمة وتكلمنا عن أن جودة التعليم كانت تستدعى تدخل مختلف".

وأضاف الدكتور طارق شوقي، أن جودة التعليم فى مصر كانت تستلزم التدخل بشكل مختلف والكثافات وعجز المعلمين تركة ورثناها ونعمل على حلها".

وفي سياق أخرقالت الدكتورة إيمان شاكر، مدير مركز الاستشعار عن بعد بالهيئة العامة للأرصاد الجوية، إن الأرصاد بالتعاون مع فريق متخصص من الجامعات المصرية تدرس تغيير وصف مناخ مصر؛ ليصبح حارًا رطبًا صيفًا وباردًا ممطرًا شتاء.

وأوضحت مدير مركز الاستشعار عن بعد بالهيئة العامة للأرصاد الجوية، إن البلاد تنعم بجو صافٍ خلال الساعات الأولى من الصباح الباكر؛ بسبب نشاط الرياح وانخفاض نسب الرطوبة، نافية تكون الشبورة المائية الكثيفة على مدار الأسبوع.
